Ninth
As soon as you mention Peter Murphy, you think of the eighties band Bauhaus, one of the fantastic things to come out of the chiaroscuro musical scene of the time. At the heart of Gothic Romanticism, Murphy’s overwhelming talent is summed up in the new album Ninth, accompanied by a long presentation tour that now arrives in Barcelona. You could call it post-punk, with lyrics stimulated by epic poetry buried under a haze of narcotics. This is noise in the shadows, clinging to chinks of light, and playing on the metaphor of vertical symmetries. It’s pure pleasure to give in to the emotion in “The Prince & Old Lady shade”, or succumb to the temptation of “Uneven and Brittle”. And once there, there’s no looking back, turning your mind to what’s already been would petrify nostalgia and freeze your soul. Only the present is relevant.
