SIMON McBURNEY / COMPLICITE

The Master and Margarita
by Mijaíl Bulgákov

We are faced with sixteen characters, in this case, not going in search of an author but to the contrary. The classic novel written by Mikhail Bulgakov, published by his wife twenty-six years after his death in 1940, is a return trip to hell heavily influenced by the legendary Faust of Goethe. In "The Master and Margarita" the force of the elements provides a perfect image to evoke the struggle between good and evil, a juicy gift for theatrical force of the British company Complicite directed by Simon McBurney, actor, writer and director so prestigious. It’s a real scenic luxury in which are represented from Jesus to Pontius Pilate, traveling from Moscow to Jerusalem, and reaching the bowels of hell itself to save the most precious in human soul. A literary experience by Bulgakov dressed with the most hilarious humour so critical to modern society and now Simon McBurney makes us complete accomplices through powerful images with which he exposes the harsh reality that hides in the surreal.
