Face to face beyond the corner
Her debut EP Freefall released in 2005 was a declaration of principles. From the title track Noemi Liba shows her strong spirit not only in the creative aspects but also as a life attitude. “But I can’t be hiding myself just to please you” is not just a sentence, it’s a kind of mantra that turns on her inner creative motor. Noemi Liba is a songwriter that lives her own free fall as the most honest way to get into her music. In the song Too late she sings “Can you tell me where I’ve been? Can you let me in on this secret of loving”, expressing her doubts about her personal experiences. She knows that everything is relative, even the existence itself, but those doubts are also the perfect palette for her writings, or maybe to write is the perfect way to get some understanding from living.
Finally, the time of her first album has arrived. It’s titled See, saw, once again a reflection of her non conformist spirit. She opens with Carry whose lyrics are the perfect intro to the personal trip of the album.“Carry me over to the next station. I got lost on my way again. Yes, it happens so much, people call it freedom, call it brave, call it sincere”. Her voice is as mysterious as the arrangement, a walk along her “dreams in rhymes”. The whole album has a night atmosphere, in fact one of the songs is precisely called Tonight, and when she says tonight she’s talking not only about that remembered or fictionally created night, it seems she’s talking about her inner night “It is the night of the storm and I’m wrapped in mauve light. Misty silhouette of the trees and I’m here, waiting to appease...” A future storm it's seen full of desire, as a door to hope. Musically, it is really refreshing the use of Arabic sounds mainly in the song Protect. “How much of this is real?” she wonders. Probably nothing, that is, everything. And suddenly, harder and Unwinding rhythms come. “Heaven, you can wait ‘till i’m ready?”. She’s not ready, but her music makes us become ready to walk along the heaven of senses. Noemi Liba has created a beautiful and full of mystery album, the portrait of her more personal dreams, the dreams she “sleeps for breakfast”. All those dreams are now coming true.
