The word campo 'field' comes from the Latin capere 'to capture'. In ancient Rome, the Campus Martius was a training arena for war; on the outskirts of modern-day Lisbon, Campo de Tiro is Europe’s largest military base. Military troops train for fictional missions, astronomy aficionados observe the stars and a boy plays the piano for the wild deer lurking in the dark. Campo reflects on the nature of the mundane and the transcendental, as life manifests itself in its many contradictory and mysterious dimensions.
