KAKU-UCHI

The diminished fifth

From the sound born in the Devil’s mountain, the music of the based Tokyo band Kaku-Uchi is an artistic thunder, deep, intense and hard. Strong guitars with finest influences like Scotish band Mogwai and Catalan band 12Twelve, among others, with which they are creating a personal sound fighting against the ones who never listen, the ones who never see.

What does Kaku-Uchi mean?

It means: “drinking at the corner.” Liquor stores that serve at the register counter. Is usual there to toast and share the vase. It is wooden and has four corners.

What influences have you taken as references to your music?

These should be bands from various countries in the world... let’s share one for each corner, four very favourites:12Twelve, mono, Mogwai, can.

You live in Tokyo. How do you see the music scene in your city?

Homeless, unfinished, grounded and experienced.

One of the tracks you present in the nau nua festival is called Wheels and reels. Is it a metaphor of society?

It is. Tokyo accessed technology in the past. We cannot pick out whether to live wired and surrounded or not. Kaku-Uchi wears torn clothes in public and experiences of means to switch sound into music.

The other one is Theme for Kursant. What was the inspiration for this one?

Russia. It is an early inspired song for students. After that stage the band is keeping effort in improving and sharing language skills.

Where’s the devil’s mountain?

“Among a prairie of flowers
Mountains of everyday
Does live in a fragrance”

And what’s the sound of devil?

Should we mention about the intervals of fifth diminished? Those were roughly identified as diabolic. To misuse of such a word is frightening indeed.

Don’t you have any complain?

“Well some people never listen you know some people just won’t see.”

One of your tracks is called From city to city. Are you going to perform in Europe or America soon?

Do you mean very soon? Around midnight would be even finer! It is definitely not too early for us but he or she doesn’t seem to be showing up yet...we need the best manager.

Could you define us your music?

It is noisy and chilling.
