ESTEVE SOLER

Against love

I write this as I review some of the classic vampirical films produced by the British Hammer Films. Yes, those movies in which Christopher Lee knelt fangs in pairs by sprouting an alleged blood in vermilion wearing on wings the imagination of locals and foreigners. Possibly it’s a good metaphor for social relations: friendships, working or living together relationships under a love title in many cases with no real meaning. Aren’t all they vampirical? Do we relate without power balances, meeting needs and fear of loneliness ahead (although, mostly on the back)? And in this we find the play "Contra l'Amor", last part of the trilogy written by Esteve Soler. Its precedents, "Contra el progrés" and "Contra la democràcia" try to wonder about two values that no one questions. From satire he brings us the perspective that we have never considered. Can anyone be against progress, democracy or love? All we would say no, even we'd look bad to anyone who dares to give an affirmative answer. But really, the question is another one: we call things by their real name or put the name in which we are interested in each case? And that's when the Christopher Lee in his Hammer period appears to me again. "Contra l'Amor" is a 2009 text which now is performed the company "La Conquesta del Pol Sud" also with an unique chance to see the complete trilogy. Humour and horror are presented as tools to discover if the heart and the appearances are kept because we really respect them or they are simply and vampirically manipulated.
