VÍCTOR MUÑOZ I CALAFELL

La ciutat
The city by Martin Crimp

One might arrive to the conclusion that happiness is a goal to be reached, a sort of pre-fab Ithaca which strips away from us any notion of fantasy or playfulness. We’re sentenced to live a firmly rigid existence in order to possess this incomprehensible abstract idea. But, what does one do once this has been obtained? Martin Crimp describes what occurs when one’s patience in this game of life wears thin and the ironies of cause and effect lose their charm. His play “La ciutat”, directed and translated by Víctor Muñoz I Calafell, is now being presented at Sala Beckett and aims to reveal the nature of personal anguish by dismantling the scaffolding which binds couples, families and friends together. After all is said and done, what lies underneath these ruins may not necessarily be that pleasant or even easy to believe.
